Vbeam Perfecta is a 595nm pulsed-dye laser (PDL), a vascular laser that targets dilated blood vessels. This wavelength is readily absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood and is designed to coagulate dilated vessels while reducing damage to the surrounding skin. It is a device from Candela of the US, FDA cleared and MFDS (Korean FDA) approved.

It is mainly used for facial flushing that appears easily and lasts a long time, and for visible capillaries (telangiectasia) around the nose or on the cheeks. It is also used for red marks left after acne has settled and for vascular lesions. The cause of redness differs from person to person, so we first assess the type of flushing and the degree of vessel dilation at consultation.

Vbeam is a management treatment that reduces and maintains redness. Flushing is a condition that can recur, so the realistic goal is to reduce how often and how intensely you flush over a course of sessions. The degree of change varies by individual.

Depending on the lesion, we sometimes use settings that cause purpura (temporary bruising), in which case bruising may remain for several days. Purpura usually fades gradually over a few days to 1 week. We explain in advance which settings will be used before treatment.

We typically recommend 3-5 or more sessions at 3-4 week intervals. Once redness has decreased, the intervals are lengthened and treatment transitions to maintenance. The number of sessions needed varies by individual depending on the type of flushing and response.

Pain is low to moderate, and treatment is performed with a cold cooling spray to reduce discomfort. Most people have it without anesthesia, and the treatment takes about 10-20 minutes depending on the extent. How it feels varies by area and individual.

Most people can go about daily life, but temporary redness may remain in the treated area. If settings that cause purpura were used, bruising may be visible for several days. Reducing lifestyle factors that trigger redness, such as temperature changes, alcohol, and UV exposure, is as important as the treatment itself. After treatment a cold compress can help, but do not rub your skin, and avoid sudden temperature changes and alcohol for a few days. When going out, apply sunscreen of SPF30 or higher daily and reapply every 2 hours.

Temporary redness may occur after treatment, and depending on the settings, purpura may remain for several days. Be sure to tell us at your visit if you have recently had strong UV exposure or tanning, are taking photosensitizing medication, are pregnant, or have a wound or infection in the treatment area. Depending on whether these apply, the timing of treatment may be adjusted.
