07FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is V-OLET made of, and how does it reduce fat under the chin?
V-OLET is an MFDS (Korean FDA)-approved deoxycholic acid injection that reduces fat under the chin to define the jawline. The injected agent breaks down fat cell membranes, and the released fat is metabolized and cleared from the body over several weeks. It is used for contour concerns caused by localized fat, such as a double chin or a blunted jawline.
Which formulation do you currently use?
We currently use a deoxycholic acid (DCA) formulation, and plan to switch to Nubiju (a CA formulation) to reduce pain during and after treatment and swelling immediately afterward. Please check at your visit which formulation is in use at that time. Guidance on the recovery course may differ depending on the formulation.
Who is it suited to, and when is another treatment a better choice?
We consider it for those whose jawline has become blurred by a double chin or submental fat, or who have fat under the chin that persists regardless of body weight. On the other hand, if the jawline is blurred by skin laxity rather than fat, we recommend a lifting treatment first. At consultation we distinguish the amount of fat from the degree of sagging, then advise you.
Does it hurt? How long does it take?
Topical numbing cream is applied beforehand, but because of tingling and swelling after injection, we describe the pain as moderate. The treatment itself takes about 10-20 minutes. How it feels varies by individual.
How long does the swelling last?
Swelling and tenderness to the touch typically last 3-7 days. For the first few days, the area under the chin may actually look more swollen, so if you have an important event, please choose your treatment date with this period in mind. How quickly it settles varies by individual.
How many sessions do I need, and when can I see the change?
Depending on the amount of fat, we typically recommend 2-4 sessions at 4-6 week intervals. Because the broken-down fat takes time to be metabolized, it is hard to judge after one session, and we evaluate the change in the jawline after the course is complete. The number of sessions needed and the degree of change vary by individual.
Will the fat come back?
Fat cells that have been broken down are understood not to increase again, so the reduction tends to be maintained. However, the remaining fat cells can enlarge with weight gain, so maintenance is needed. How well results are maintained varies by individual.
How is it different from jaw Botox or lifting, and can I have them together?
V-OLET reduces fat under the chin, jaw (masseter) Botox reduces enlarged jaw muscles, and lifting focuses on raising sagging skin and tissue. Jawline concerns often involve a mix of fat, muscle, and sagging, so it is sometimes combined with Botox, InMode, Ultherapy, and others. The combination and order are decided after consultation.
Are there side effects or precautions before treatment?
Besides swelling and tenderness, bruising or nodules may rarely occur. Be sure to tell us at your visit if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking anticoagulants, or have ever had a hypersensitivity reaction to the product's ingredients. Treatment may be postponed if there is inflammation or infection at the injection site.
How should I care for my skin after treatment?
For the first 24 hours, do not rub the injection sites, and avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, and saunas on the day of treatment. During the 3-7 days of swelling, we advise not pressing or massaging the area under the chin. If pain gradually worsens, please contact the clinic right away; we will give you a follow-up schedule after treatment.
How much does it cost, and how do I book?
The cost depends on the dose and number of sessions, and is confirmed after consultation. Reference prices can be found on the price list on our website.
