07FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Eye Thermage?

It is a tightening treatment that uses a dedicated eye tip on the Thermage device to deliver monopolar RF heat to the skin around the eyes. The heated dermal collagen contracts at the outset, and new collagen then forms over the following months. It is considered for managing fine lines around the eyes and reduced firmness around the eyelids.

Who is Eye Thermage suited to, and are there cases where it is not suitable?

We consider it for those who have started to notice fine lines or loose skin around the eyes, or whose skin around the eyelids feels thinner. If drooping is already severe, non-surgical treatment alone has limits, and we will tell you honestly at consultation. It is not recommended if you have an implanted electronic medical device, have infection or wounds in the treatment area, or are pregnant.

How do you decide between 225 shots and 450 shots?

At Grays Dermatology, Eye Thermage is offered in two configurations: 225 shots and 450 shots. Which one suits you is decided at consultation after checking the skin thickness around your eyes and the extent of fine lines and laxity. Even with the same number of shots, the distribution by area can differ from person to person.

The treatment is close to the eyes — how are my eyes protected?

Treatment is performed with an eye-protection device in place. It is performed directly by a board-certified dermatologist, who checks the skin around your eyes before deciding whether to proceed and the extent. If you have recently had surgery around the eyes or are receiving eye treatment, be sure to tell us at consultation.

Does Eye Thermage hurt? How is anesthesia handled?

The pain is moderate, with a brief heat sensation, and how much you feel differs by individual. Treatment proceeds after topical numbing cream, and the device's vibration and cooling functions ease the heat sensation. The board-certified dermatologist adjusts the intensity while watching the heat response.

How long does treatment take, and what is the recovery time?

Treatment time varies with the number of shots and coverage, so we advise you after consultation; separate time is needed for topical numbing. You can return to daily life right after treatment. Temporary redness or swelling may occur but usually settles within a few hours.

When do results appear, and how long do they last?

Results generally appear gradually over 2-3 months as new collagen forms. They typically last around 1 year, and the degree and timing of change vary by individual.

How often should I have Eye Thermage?

About once a year is recommended. Rather than repeating on a fixed date, we evaluate the progress from your previous treatment and then decide the timing of the next one.

Can I have it together with facial Thermage?

Yes, overall facial firmness care and eye-area care are sometimes planned together. Facial Thermage covers broad areas such as the cheeks and jawline, while Eye Thermage treats the eye area with a dedicated eye tip. Whether to do them on the same day, and how to split the shot configuration, is decided after consultation.

How is it different from Botox around the eyes?

They address different causes. Eye Thermage uses RF heat to address reduced firmness and fine lines in the skin itself, while Botox addresses wrinkles formed by muscle movement when you smile or frown. When both causes are present they are sometimes planned together, and the order and interval are decided after consultation.

Is there anything to be careful about after treatment?

Do not rub the treated area, and for a few days avoid strong heat such as saunas, jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouses), and heavy drinking. We recommend moisturizing well and applying sunscreen of SPF30 or higher daily. If redness or swelling persists or your eyes feel uncomfortable, please contact the clinic.

How much does Eye Thermage cost, and how do I book?

The cost depends on the 225-shot or 450-shot configuration, so it is confirmed after consultation. Reference prices can be found on the price list on our website. Booking is available via Naver Booking, our KakaoTalk channel, or phone (+82-51-710-1891), and consultations are also available via LINE.
